DSDA: Helping ease the East Texas dog overpopulation crisis through spay/neuter
🆘 30 DOGS IN NEED OF YOUR HELP! 🆘
DSDA's mission is to help local street dogs and those abandoned in rural areas of surrounding Dallas. We have primarily focused on areas south of Dallas. However, since Covid, a high level of need has been in regions of East Texas where the population of unwanted dogs has skyrocketed!
🆘 THE PROBLEM 🆘
The problem is due to the high prevalence of dumping dogs (including unwanted litters) who are not spayed or neutered, having a devastating impact on the dog overpopulation problem. People living in these areas have limited access to affordable veterinary care, and the good intentioned folks do not have financial means to care for large numbers of dogs.
On Saturday May 2, volunteers took a discovery trip to East Texas, to meet a family we had been working with for the past 2 months. They helped several abandoned dogs which over time turned into a nightmare...as the females quickly became pregnant until there are now 25+ dogs on the property...including nursing moms, pregnant dogs, newborns, older puppies soon going into heat! All are small breed mixes-under 20 pound-ish.
We returned with little family, mom and 7 young pups, all covered in open infected sores from scratching at fleas (more on 'Snow White and 7 Dwarfs' in a future post) and two older female pups (Cherry & Plum). Many of the dogs on the property were given flea/tick prevention.
Please consider donating and/or fostering (www.dsda.org/foster) & if you work with another organization who can help email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
🆘 Without your help the endless suffering will continue! 🆘
